The three composers commissioned for the Carte Postale project used the theme of postcards as
an inspirational focus for their works. In keeping with this theme, Stephen Menotti arranged the Fünf Orchesterlieder Op. 4 (1912) by Alban Berg for the quintet. The texts to these songs are taken from poems that Peter Altenberg wrote on postcards.
